

Christina Collins (she/her) is a native of Chester, Virginia, where she began her early training in Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary, Hip-Hop, and Tap. She grew passionate about dance and began competing in various competitions, earning both Regional and National titles across the East Coast. She graduated in 2016 from Thomas Dale High School for the Visual and Performing Arts, where she majored in dance under the direction of Ilana Puglia. Christina continued her dance education at Virginia Commonwealth University, earning a degree in Dance + Choreography. There, she studied Modern, Ballet, and Choreography with notable artists such as Autumn Proctor Waddel, Eric Rivera, Judy Steele, Scott Putman, André Zachery, and Courtney Harris. While at VCU, Christina co-choreographed a duet titled Orbit with Deonta Featherson, which was selected to perform at the Mid-Atlantic South American College Dance Association Conference in 2019. She also collaborated with Jelani Taylor and Christine Wyatt on Journeys: An Interdisciplinary Dance Project, Homecoming: An Interdisciplinary Dance Project, and Institute for Contemporary Arts: Provocations Performance by Christine Wyatt. After graduating in 2020, Christina became an educator at local dance studios, teaching Jazz, Contemporary/Lyrical, Ballet, Tap, and Children’s Creative Movement classes. Most recently, she earned her Master of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of Maryland, College Park. In 2023, Christina and her peers were selected to perform a collaborative piece at the American College Dance Association Nationals in Long Beach, California. She also became a Dance Education Laboratory Fellow in New York City, where she explored innovative teaching methodologies. Christina draws inspiration from artists such as Cameron McKinney and Jasmine Hearn, and she continues to explore new ways of expression as an interdisciplinary artist. In Fall 2024, she presented her thesis performance, MUVAshiiip: The Voyage, and defended her dissertation, MUVAshiiip: Understanding Afrofuturism, The Black Imagination, and Time-Jumping Through the Past, Present, and Future, in February 2025. She is excited to be working with the students at Studio25 during their debut year!!
